Abstract
Primary health care is an essential part of family practice. In order to assess the contents of primary health care, 9 residency-trained family physicians recorded the contents of the daily family practice situation during the 21 days of July and August in 1988. After classifying the collected data in reference to the ICPC(International classification of Pramary Care) coding system, the results were as follows.
1. The total number of patients was 5,440, in which 2,337 was male(43.0%) and the number of female was 3,103(57.0%).
2. The age distribution of patients was 0 through 89 year old. The largest was the 0-9 year old group by 43%, the smallest was the 80-89 year old group by 1.4%. The pediatric and geriatric group consisted of 47% and 6.7%, respectively.
3. The total number of Reason for encounter(RFEs) was 6,941, the average RFE per patient was 1.4 and the kind of RFEs was 319. Among them, cough, fever, sneezing/nasal congestion and symptom/complaint throat ranked most common.
4. Most RFEs take the form of a symptom or a complaint, especially in respiratory system, sense organ and digestive system.
5. Of the 5,075 patients that were diagnosed, they could be classified to have 273 kinds of different diagnoses. The most common 10 diseases were 54.3% of the total and the most common 20 diseases were 67.1% of the total.
6. The 5 most common disease systems were respiratony system(38.6%), skin system(18.8%), digestive system(16.3%), neuromuscular system(6.3%), circulatory system(3.2%) and the 3 least common disease systems were social system(0.0%), male genitalia system(0.3%), pregnancy and child-bearing system(0.6%).
7. The diagnostic examination per patient was 0.29 and the 10 most common diagnostic examination comprised 81.1 percent of the total. The referral rate ws 0.55%.
