Abstract
To know the knowledge, attitude and practice of Family Medicine among the directors of training Hospitals, a questionnaire survey was conducted with the 172 directors of training Hospitals, 96(55.8%) reponded the questionnaire. The results of this survey were as follows:
1. 94.8% of directors had the knowledge of family medicine and the rate showed higher when the directors age was younger and the size of hospital was larger.
2. The attitude toward the necessity of family medicine showed 76.0% answered positive. The rate was higher in smaller hospital than larger hospitals and it was statistically significant.
3. The practice rate of family medicine was 59.4%.
The rate was significantly higher in smaller and internship training hospitals than in larger hospitals.
4. The main reason not to practice family medicine revealed that "they are satisfied with their current situation" was 38.4%, and "because of the struggle with other specialty" was 30.8% respectively.
5. The ideal duration of resident training for family medicine residency recommended by directors showed 3 years was 52.1%, 2 years was 28.1% and 4 years was 19.8% respectively. 71.9% of directors recommended 3 years and more.
