Abstract
Primary care physicians often make patient management decisions based on their own radiologic interpretation. This important area of clinical decision making was not adequately evaluated in any form in this country. In this series of 388 radiographs from in a hospital emergency room, interpretation discrepancy betwwn primary care providers(residents in family practice) and radiologists occurred 17.7 percent of cases, a discordance rate slightly higher than similar investigation by American family physicians. Majority of the films for which interpretative disagreement occurred had little potential implications for influencing patient management, but management outcome was not evaluated. Primary care physicians can provide high quality radiographic interpretation when coupled with clinical information and proper training in simple radiographic interpretation. More comprehensive evaluation, including praticing family physicians and general practitioners was needed.
