Abstract
To attempt to improve the health status of population through periodic health examination, we should not only try for case-finding but also know the ways of intervention how the people with abnormal results cope with their health problems and use health care system to solve them.
Relationship of the ways of intervention with demographic characteristics, results of physical examination and laboratory tests, and personal health beliefs were retrospectively investigated with questionnaire method in hypertensive patients detected through periodic health examination for the beneficiary of the Korea Medical Insurance Corporation on 1988. Seventeen of fifty three patients(32percent) belong to non-care group and only nineteen(35.8%) received care by their physicians. Physician-care group were older and had lesser degree of perceived barriers, longer duration of illness, and higher systolic blood pressure(above 160mmHg) than non-care group or self-care group. Other factors of Health Belief Model-perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, and perceived benefit-were not related with the way of intervention used by hypertensive patiens.
We should seek appropriate ways how we lessen barriers perceived by patients, also we should not send a one-way notice only and take positive action for the better care of the hypertensive patients detected through periodic health examination.
