The status of measles was investigated in the children(under the age of fifteen and born after the date of Aug. 1, 1974) living in a suburban area in terms of the incidence and the course of measles and the rate of immunization for measles.
Also the investigators cornpared the incidence rates and the course of measles between the immunized and nonimmunized group and among three subgroups by the time of vaccination in the immunized, and then recommended schedule for measles vaccination.
The result were as follows :
1. The incidence rate of measles was 6.4%.
Peak time of occurence was June. The age specific incidence rate was in order of 23.1% at 7 year old, 10.3% at 2 year old, 10.0% at the first year of lifen.
There was no difference between the male and female children.
2. The immunization rate of measles was 89.8%.
9.6% of them were immunized before the first year of life, 44.2% of them were immunized after the first year of life and the remained 47.0% were immunized twice(before and after the first year of life).
3. The difference between the incidence rates in the immunized group (4.2%) and the nonimmunized group (20.0%) was statistically significant (p<0.05).
Among the immunized group, the incidence rate of measles was 8.3% in the children immunized before the first year, 3.2% in the immunized after the first year, 3.6% in immunized twice(before and after the first year).
The difference among the immunized was mot statistically significant.
4. There were no difference between immunized and nonimmunized group in the time of appearance of measles rash.
The duration of illness was as a mean 8 days in children immunized before the first year, 13.5 days in immunized after the first year, 10.2 days in immunized twice(before and after the first year).
There was no significant difference in duration of illness between above four groups.
